Help and Support
Puberty can be very confusing. Even though there is nothing scary about puberty, people may still get worried about things which they do not understand. It is normal to worry. You might feel like you need help dealing with puberty, and that is normal too.
How to Deal with Intense Emotions
You might need to deal with intense feelings of anger or anxiety during puberty. Breathing exercises can help you calm down from these kinds of emotions.
Try taking slow, deep breaths. Count to five while breathing in through your nose. Then count to five while holding your breath. Finally, count to five while breathing out through your mouth. You can do this as many times as you need to in order to calm down.
There are all sorts of ways to stay calm and healthy. Some people practice yoga. Some people name all the things that they can sense. Making a list of all the things we can see, hear, feel and smell can help us feel calm again.
People Who Can Help You
To get help with puberty, talk to a trusted adult. This might be someone at home, like a parent or carer, or someone at school, like a teacher or a school nurse. They can help answer any questions, and they will know what to do next. There is no need to be embarrassed about puberty – remember, adults have all been through puberty too. People who are adults now had the same questions when they were young.
