Fear is a natural reaction we have to dangerous situations. It is an emotion that can keep us safe and prevent us from being hurt. For example, seeing a dangerous animal, such as a snake, can trigger a fear response. This response can prevent us from acting in a dangerous or unsafe way. As such we know fear is not necessarily a bad or negative emotion.
The world we live in today is typically much safer than the world many years ago. As a result, sometimes our brain amplifies small issues and our fear response is triggered for things that our not dangerous to us. For example some people may become fearful of a test, public speaking or a sport or game. It is important for us to be able to manage our fear response, to use our thinking brain to determine when it is appropriate to feel fear to keep us safe, or when it is an over reaction.
