Australia's Prime MInistersWhat's it like to be incharge of a whole country?
The top job in Australia is the prime minister. The prime minister chairs the Cabinet - a regular meeting of the top government ministers - and sets the agenda for government. Our past Prime Ministers have ranged in age from 37 to 67 at the time they started the job. The longest-serving prime minister was Robert Menzies, who held the post for 19 years. The shortest term for a prime minister was just eight days, served by Francis Forde. Prime ministers are not chosen by the people in an election, or even by the parliament. They are chosen by the party that controls a majority of seats in the House of Representatives. Read more about our Prime Ministers here.
