Learning Intention
To write a set of instructions for someone to follow Success Criteria Are specific Provide enough detail Are in the correct order Procedures are a text that instruct us how to make or do something.
One of the most important aspects of these texts are the instructions, they need to be clear and specific and step by step, otherwise chaos can ensue! (See the attached video) Your Task
It's another EXACT INSTRUCTION CHALLENGE! You are going to write a set of instructions for me to follow to complete a simple, everyday task. As you would know by now, I am going to follow your instructions to the letter, so make sure you are specific. This time I want you to see if you can instruct me how best to complete a task that doesn't include food (it can be food or drink if you really cannot think of something!) Similar to last week, I am going to select a few of the ones sent in via Classdojo to film to see if you really can instruct me how to complete your task. GOOD LUCK! REMEMBER: BE SPECIFIC! |

Tuesday's Activity
Learning Intention
To write a list Success Criteria Have included at least 10 things on my list Used dot points under my heading Written down the page, not across the lines As you would have figured out now, we can have a procedure for just about everything!
Everything we do, every task we complete, all of these have a procedure (it may just not be written down). Some procedures are taught to us by someone so we learn the procedure through repetition or practice, often we are younger. Even entering the classroom, certain procedures are followed. Put bag away, check schedule to see what books are needed, get ready for morning circle etc. Your Task
Today you are going to write a list with as many tasks as you can think of that would require or already have a procedure. YOU DON’T NEED TO WRITE A PROCEDURE TODAY See how many simple and also complex tasks could require a procedure. I have included some to start you off if you need! |

To plan our procedural text Success Criteria Have considered our goal/aim of our text Included specific details and all equipment Been specific and clear when writing our steps out As we know, procedures are a set of instructions that inform your audience how to do or make something.
We need to be specific, imagining the person following these instructions has never done this before. To often we assume everyone knows what we are talking about, but with these we need to pretend they don’t! Your Task
Today you are going to plan a new procedural text. You need to think about what you are going to write a procedure on, remember you are teaching someone how to undertake a task, create a set of instructions for something or how to make or do something. Choose one of the items from the list you created on Tuesday! Using the template attached to plan your procedure, which you will write on Thursday! Remember to think about your purpose or goal is, the equipment needed, followed by your steps. |

Friday's Actvity:
Learning Intention
To write a procedure for an everyday task Success Criteria Have explained step by step how to complete your task Added enough detail Chronologically ordered have procedures for so many different things in our life, including procedures for entering and exiting school, how we get ready to washing our hands. We often learn these procedures from parents, friends, teachers, or even ourselves which means we don’t require a written set of instructions. But what if you had to teach someone to do something we all know how to do, could you? Your Task
Today you are going to pick something from your list that you probably don’t think needs a procedure (e.g getting dressed) Pick something that you do routinely as you will have a strong knowledge of how to do this task. Write a procedure for completing this task, it may just surprise you how many steps this takes to complete! I have include the start of a procedure to show you how much detail you need to include (you can see that I am up to step 6 and are yet to even put on the first layer of clothing) You must be very specific and include every single detail – even the really small ones! |
Procedural Text ExampleProcedure for getting dressed
Aim Follow these instructions to learn how to get dressed Materials T-shirt Shorts Socks Shoes Underwear Step 1: Open eyes Step 2: Sit up in bed Step 3: Swing legs out onto the side of the bed, be careful not to go to quickly as you might fall out of bed (this is not good if you are sleeping on a top bunk!) Step 4: Place two feet onto the floor then bring yourself to a standing position Step 5: Remove PJ bottoms, to do this you will need to grab the waistband and slide them down by pushing gently but firmly on the waistband and push this to the floor. Step 6: …. Step 7: …. |

To write our procedural text Success Criteria Have included our goal/aim of our text Included specific details and all equipment Been specific and clear when writing our steps out - written in chronological order When writing our procedure we need to include subheadings for each section and make sure we are explicit in how we instruct people to make or do whatever we are asking them to do. Your Task
Using your planner from Tuesday, write your procedure. Use the example one provided to show you how to set out your procedure, you will see it uses subheadings, the steps are numbered and written chronologically and it lists all equipment needed. When finished, any person should be able to follow your procedure to undertake your task and be successful. EXTENSION Give your procedure to someone in your family, will it work? If possible you can film someone completing your procedure and upload to your dojo portfolio, if not just upload your written procedure! |

Your challenge is to write a procedure to help two different people below. YOU ONLY NEED TO DO ONE Your Task
Choose one of the following scenarios to write a procedure to help solve the problem: Scenario One An alien has arrived into town, it needs to fit in to our society so it is not spotted by the government. Write a series of steps this alien will need to follow to enable him to hide in plain sight. Scenario Two COVID is over and your parents have decided to let you throw a party and invite your friends to celebrate. As you will be at school, your parents are going to set it up for you so it’s ready for after school. Write a procedure so they know exactly what is needed to be done and prepared |

To plan to write a science report Success Criteria Include sufficient details Included all equipment used in the experiment My method is written chronologically (step by step) A science report describes the following;
- the process followed - the progress taken - the results It includes information about a particular science experiment that has previously taken place. A science report is recording the evidence and overall procedure and results of the experiment that took place. We look firstly at the aim (what were they or we trying to achieve) then the materials used to complete the experiment Then comes the method, this is written step by step. We include a diagram also. We then include the results – what actually happened and a discussion (some questions are provided to discuss in the template and finally a conclusion. Your Task
Choose one of the two video's (either the colourful cloud explosion or elephant toothpaste) to watch. After viewing your chosen clip (you might want to watch both first) you are going to use the planning template to plan a written science report. In each section you might want to just put key words or dot points, you won't need to write full sentences until actually writing your report. You might need to watch your chosen experiment a few times so you can record each material used and also the method step by step. I have also included another Steve Spangler clip just fun a bit of fun, so feel free to watch it aswell!
(Don't use this one for your report as the equipment needed would be impossible to record - there is over 100 at least!) |

Monday's ActivityLearning Intention
To write a short response to a question based on visual prompt Success Criteria Have covered all aspects of RACE in my planning Have responded specifically to just the question Have watched the clip and used the template There are many different types of written responses. Today and tomorrow we are going to be looking at writing a short response. When writing a short response, we use the acronym RACE.
It is important that we: R = Restate the question and turn it into a statement A = Answer the question C = cite the source (find evidence that backs up what we are saying E = Explain our response Your Task
Watch the clip above called "A Cloudy Lesson". Tomorrow you will write a short response the following question: What is the "lesson" learnt by the two characters in the end? Today, we need to plan what we need to then be able to write our response. I have included an organiser where you can plan ideas and different things you want to include in your response you'll be writing tomorrow. For each part of the response you need to consider how to include enough information to respond to the question. Remember you are not retelling the movie, or telling me what happened in the movie, but answering the question above about the movie! Please don't write your response today. Plan out your ideas. The picture to the right has a copy of the organiser and also an annotated version. The purple text contains ideas of what you might want to include when writing your own response. Tomorrow I will include an example response. REMEMBER: Focus your thinking and ideas back to the question you are responding to! |

Tuesday's Activities
Learning Intention
To write a response to a question based on a visual prompt Success Criteria Referenced my planning page from yesterday Considered and included all four parts needed in my response Have fully responded to the question posed Please read the information to the right of this above the RACE picture. If you need to watch the clip again, please click back to the Monday tab.
Your Task
Using your planner from yesterday, write a written response to the question below. What is the "lesson" learnt by the two characters in the end? Remember to structure our response correctly. You must restate the question so it becomes a statement then answer the question. When answering the question you must provide evidence from the clip that shows shows your answer and then explain your response and add your thoughts at the end. Use the example answer to help guide your own written response. It follows the structure perfectly. |
Below is an example of a question and a short response.
The response is colour coded to match the ACRONYM race. Each colour shows where and how each part was answered We use this acronym to help us remember to include everything we need when writing a response. Each part fits within a section As when writing a response you need to structure it in a certain way. You need to RACE towards a correct response. Example ResponseQUESTION: According to the article, is it important for lions to live as a pride? It is important for lions to live as a pride because they depend on one another for survival. For example the article states that "the lionesses share the work of raising cubs" and male lions "provide protection from other lions". They also work together when they hunt larger prey. By sharing the responsibilities as a pride, they will be able to survive a long time. If lions lived on their own or just with their immediate family, when the male lion left to hunt, it would leave the female lion and it's cubs vulnerable. So even though they are the kings of the jungle, the lions must live and work as a pride to ensure the safety of all lions. DON'T FORGET TO UPLOAD YOU WORK TO YOUR CLASS DOJO PORTFOLIO!!!!

Thursday's Activities:
Learning Intention
To write a response to a question based on a visual prompt Success Criteria Have used the prompt to plan my response Identified the topic of my response Added enough detail At the start of the week, we looked at writing a short response. Today and tomorrow we are going to write a longer response.
This response will be written differently as I have not posed a question to you, This response will look at you responding directly to the media as a whole. This response type is broken into three main parts: *Orientation *Details *Conclusion In this type of response we want you to identify the subject, describe it's important features, give your personal responses and opinions then sum up or make a recommendation. Your Task
Watch the clip provided today called 'Crossroads'. Using the planner we are going to prepare to write a response tomorrow. Make sure you complete the planner with as much information and thinking you can as this will make it easier for you when it comes to writing your response. You can discuss a variety of different aspects when it comes to writing your response. You might focus on: What is the thing they are all afraid of? Is it a metaphor for something bigger happening in life? What is the significance of the two people not running away? Personal thoughts, feelings when and after viewing. In your details section, think about adding your reactions to the clip, how it made you feel, what you thought of the characters. Use the picture to the right to help you with ideas for what you might add in each section of your planner. |

Monday's Activity
Learning Intention
To write an effective and critical review Success Criteria Did I effectively describe the movie/show to my reader? Have I included my opinion, recommendation and star rating? Have I included enough detail so my reader fully understands the plot and characters and the movie storyline? |
When reviewing an event, it needs to include certain elements.
We must ensure that we include: An orientation: the who, what, where, when, why etc. and include the necessary details. For a personal review on an event, such as the one we will write today, we must mention details about how it made us feel, thoughts, what we learnt, and physical reactions or effects. Finally, with all reviews we need to give a final assessment or recommendation. Would you recommend it, if so why or why not and also your own personal rating. Your TaskThink about your weekend. It might not be the one just gone
but an amazing weekend you might have had before we were so restricted in what we can do and where we can go. Your task is to write a review of this weekend. Remember to include: *Orientation – who, what, where, why etc *Details – how you felt, thoughts, what you learnt, reactions of the weekend, key highlights/low lights *Recommendation and rating Remember to use the example provided to you here to help guide you in writing your own review. |
Review Example - EventWow! This is the only word I need to help explain just how amazing my weekend just was. Imagine all of your wishes packed into just two days…well three days as mum and dad let me have Friday off school too! Day one was Movie World, Day two…Sea World and you guessed it, day three was Wet and Wild! This was my dream weekend all rolled into one. If you get the chance to go to Movie World, I highly recommend riding the Superman Escape ride, it was exhilarating. I learnt though that it’s not always a great idea to ride a rollercoaster just after finishing lunch, I hope the people below were able to move quickly enough…whoops. Even though this was not enjoyable, the rides at movie world are definitely second to none. Sea World was quite large and I enjoyed seeing the variety of different animals on offer. I highly recommend going to the dolphin show and also found the sea lion show really funny. Wet and Wild was tiring…so many steps! If I was going to invent something it would be an elevator to go to the top of the rides. My favourite ride was the aqua racer, even if I couldn’t beat my dad, he was just way too fast for me! Overall, this was the greatest weekend of my life! I rate it 5 out of 5 (I’d give it 6 if I could!). The Gold Coast theme parks I would recommend to anyone who loves to have fun and if you are a bit of a thrill seeker like me then go early so can beat the crowd and hopefully ride more of the rides! I would go back tomorrow if I was allowed! |
Tuesday's Activity
Learning Intention
To write an effective and critical review of a product Success Criteria Explained the products function Added a recommendation and an age range New products are released daily all across the world, often in
direct competition with another company who have released the same thing. Often reviews are what enables one product to get purchased more than its rival. Think Apple VS Android. When reading a product review we want to learn what the product is, what its function is, how easy/difficult it is to use. We might see mentioned accessories that come with the product also (nothing worse than buying something to find out later everything we need to use it is sold separately. We would also want to read a recommendation and see a rating. Your TaskYour task is to choose a product to review.
Within your review we need to include the following information: *What the product is *What the product does *How easy or difficult the product is to use *Included accessories *Recommendation and personal opinion *Rating As always I have included an example to guide you with writing your own review. |
Product Review ExampleRoll the dice to see if you can offload your planet's trash to a neighbour. But watch out — everyone else is giving you their junk at the same time! Astro Trash is a fast-paced game that doesn’t stop until someone wins. The more people you play with, the more fun (and hectic) it gets. I recommend this game to be played by anyone over the age of 6 up to adult. It does contain small parts that could be eaten by someone younger so I would not recommend you play against your baby brother or sister! Learning Intention
To write an effective and critical book review Success Criteria Have I added enough information to my book review planner? Have I included all the key aspects needed to help me write my review? Book reviews need to look at a variety of different aspects.
We need to consider the plot, characters and events, twists and plot holes and cause and effect. Will also need to discuss our thoughts and feelings towards the different characters and also the book itself. Before writing an in-depth review, we need to plan effectively for this. Your taskComplete the planner attached about a book you have read.
It might be one you have just recently finished or one you have read and thoroughly enjoyed. You will need to select a text that is familiar to you as you will need to recall many of the details. This planner will be used tomorrow to help when you write your review of the text you have selected so make sure to add as much information as you can, the more you add today, the easier it will be to write tomorrow! |

To write an effective and critical review of a food Success Criteria Did I effectively describe the food to my reader? Have I included my recommendation and star rating? Have I included enough detail so my reader fully understands what I was eating and how it tasted? Your taskHow do we know what we really like to eat? Usually food is recommended to us by a friend, our family or through advertising or an online review.
Would you eat something if someone told you it wasn’t nice? Probably not. Pick something in your house to eat. It doesn’t need to be a complete meal. It might be a piece of fruit, a vegetable, a muesli bar or a salad sandwich. It might be a nice treat food like chocolate, a piece of cake or a lamington.
After eating this product you are to write a review including details about your food, the taste, texture, flavours. You might want to talk about the presentation of the food and how it made you feel when you are eating it. You need to include a recommendation and a rating. REMEMBER TO UPLOAD THIS TO YOUR CLASS DOJO PORTFOLIO, YOU CAN TYPE THIS REVIEW AND UPLOAD IT AS A FILE OR HANDWRITE AND SIMPLY TAKE A PHOTO OF YOUR WORK

TIM BURTON’s ‘ALICE IN WONDERLAND' Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” was probably the most anticipated movie of the year 2010. But is it any good? First of all, I should probably mention that hardcore Lewis Carroll fans may find it very disappointing. It features most of the same characters and a couple of the same locations, but the story is completely different. Alice is no longer a little girl, but an unconventional young woman who has the same dream of finding herself in Wonderland every night, until one day it happens in real life. Her arrival was expected. Alice is supposed to save the inhabitants from the evil Red Queen and get the reign back to her kind sister, the White Queen. She knows nothing about it, but she is meant to be the knight in shining armour, both figuratively and literally speaking. The original story was turned into a completely commonplace fairy-tale about struggle between good and evil. All the characters were made into the same types we can see in every other Disney movie: the villain, cruel and irritable (the Red Queen); the kind and creative outsider (the Mad Hatter); the fearless hero unaware of his/her own might (Alice); the sage (the Caterpillar), etc. However, there are some good parts. First and foremost, the visual effects are incredible. Every creature and every landscape is beautifully designed making the movie visually pleasing. Secondly, two of the main parts are played by Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp. Despite the fact that their characters are very plain and corny, these brilliant actors still bring great performances. So, what would be my final verdict? If you a true lover of Disney style fairy-tales then this movie is a must watch and I highly recommend you go out and see it now. Although if you are looking for an adaptation of the traditional story then you might find this movie a little harder to watch. I give Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland 3.5 out of 5 stars. |
